Police: Two men claiming to sell insurance, breaking into homes

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - People in Johnson County are on edge because police say two men are breaking into homes by pretending to be insurance salesmen.

One of the victims says the men showed up at her house more than once, and she is afraid they might come back.

They are knocking on doors and claiming to sell insurance policies. In fact, they are claiming to be Jason Barker with Bluegrass Heritage Insurance.

"We don't know who they are. Have no association with us," said Barker.

19-year-old Krista Jarrell says she quickly learned insurance is not why they were there.

"He said we're here for three things: to rape you, to kill you and to rob you," she said.

That is when she called 911 and waited.

"I looked through my kitchen window to see if I could see anybody out there, and when I leaned up to look the guy jumped up with a gun," she said.

She says the men ran when they heard police coming.

"We searched for about an hour, hour and a half, inside the hill. Couldn't find anybody," said Deputy Terry Tussey.

Deputies say Bluegrass Heritage Insurance has been in the area going door to door, but company officials say they want to ensure the public these men are not with them.

"Our business is protecting families. We're not trying to take advantage of or hurt someone," said Barker.

Police say people should be extra cautious who they are opening their doors for. They say if you are unsure at all do not answer the door, and they say if you see anything suspicious call 911.

"I never thought that, you know, this would ever happen. I always bragged about how safe I lived was," said Jarrell.

Officials say the men were last seen driving an older model green pickup truck.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
