Ballymac Eske?s career devastating race
Just when everyone was sure that Burnpark Champ?s son was reaching all new heights in greyhound racing and making the connections prouder than ever, he bumped into the worst failure of his career. The most recent failure of the two-year-old fawn dog deprived him of the straight third hat-trick of the career.
The race in which he was sent as the 4 to 11 favourite, became the hardest hit of his profession. He has been in the top league of those greyhounds who have been ruling the four-bend races recently. His tussle remained with the other highlight in the field, Mags Gamble, trained by, H. F. Williams.
In majority of the races, the fourth trap proves out to be the trickiest one, but in the sixth heat of the Betfred Eclipse, Mags Gamble ran clear across the first bend, and at that very moment the favourite entry was struggling for room in order to burst into speed.
His failure to break free from the crowd cost him the trouble around the second bend.
With the obvious favourite out of the winning frame, Crash?s son went on to take down Whittle Murtagh, who eventually had to give in due to the loss of 3 ? lengths.
The B. Draper trained, Ballymac Eske, lost the race to the fourth position after taking 30.01 seconds to complete the 500 metres race.
The last time that the hound ran impressively and won the winner?s prize money out of the total prize money of ?5,000 was on 27th September, 2012 at Hove in the final of the Coral Greyhound Olympic.
Despite getting crowded twice, when racing in the first and then second, Ballymac Eske was able to complete the 515 metres track distance in 29.40 seconds.
The favourite entry went through the wire with the final 1 ? lengths in his favour.
The blow that his career and the connections have suffered might as well remain as a bruise for a long time to come. His failure has given birth to another star who was completely oblivious of his own potential.
If Ballymac Eske will ever be able to reach out for being one of the legendary greyhound racing icons or not is highly uncertain, after all he did not miss the race due to a second position but fourth.
